Course information: Confined Spaces Training Courses A confined space is an area that workers can physically enter to carry out works with restricted or limited entrance and exit points and time allowance to get in and out. In addition, the space will pose considerable risks to anyone working in it. Lack of oxygen, exposure to poisonous fumes and gasses, fire and explosions, free-flowing liquids and solids (such as grain), dust and residues, extreme temperatures and limited ease of escape are all very real hazards to contend with. They are known as ‘specified risks’ within the industry. There is also the fact that confined spaces can be created as a job progresses. Works that may start off in a simple configuration can become confined due to increasing building works, debris, or accidentally. So, it is critical that people working in confined spaces know what they are dealing with and can adapt quickly. Confined space training enables employees who work in or near these spaces to stay safe and for businesses to be legally compliant. Companies by law have a duty of care to provide appropriate training for their employees in their given working conditions, and confined spaces present dangerous challenges for untrained employees.
